Yes, WHY?

I have made my debut on The Punch, with my Twitter piece.

The commenters are already out in force, with the usual nice mix of applause and duhhhhh.

My favourite example, from "Colin Campbell"

"why did you spend seven hours on something you hate?"

Colin is SO onto me. Why DID I do that? It's a completely absurd thing to do! It's just stupid! It's like some ridiculous JOKE!

Hee.

I don't even know where to start with people like that...Just need to get in their face and let out a big 'DUHHHHHHHHHHHHH!'

My lect. "J" said all sem. how much they love their job... you do too, huh?

I had to apologise 4 or 5 times this sem. online. They said I was "condescending". In my defence, I'll say it was the stupidity (the lowering of a standard) that brought out the best in me.

At least I helped a couple o' thousand people laugh theirs heads off for a few months, that's gotta be worth something.

Heh, just read this one, and it was very well done.

This kind of 'subtle' (and I use that word in a relative sense, given that it was pretty fucking blatant) satire is a breath of fresh air in a world of 'must STRONGLY STRONGLY HINT that I am joking several times throughout the piece just to make sure everyone is on board, then in the last paragraph pretty much just come out and say THIS WAS A JOKE in case there are still a few who haven't realised.'

Please don't be disheartened by the ridiculous number of people who either entirely missed the point, or apparently 'got' it but claimed that it was shit (and also, they hate you) anyway. (Pretty sure most of the latter are actually those from the former category for whom the penny belatedly dropped, trying to channel their own embarassed confusion into cool dismissiveness.) And whatever you do don't bother trying to accomodate them, or you'll just end up blunting your own wit.
