I'm surprised that no-one seems to have seen the illogic in striving to maintain a "surplus" in the budget, while also having a "special levy" to fix the flood damage?
ummmm..... use the surplus budget cash (presumably for a rainy day... no the irony is not lost) and if that isn't enough THEN a special levy?
But a special levy while also maintaining a surplus when said surplus could also be used seems illogical
Ah well, Anon, John Howard taught us all that surpluses aren't for using, they're for...erm...um...sort of...having.
Just think of it as paying back to stimulus money you received during the GFC. Nothing comes without a price
